OPEN Creativity Club: Rave Culture

From underground raves to huge festivals, rave culture has evolved into a global movement that celebrates freedom, resistance, and self-expression. With its roots in the underground music scene, raving creates a unique space where people can escape from everyday pressures and find unity in the rhythm. Let’s take a journey through the beats, the community, and the healing power of the rave.

Lights, music, dance, and connection. In this event, Podium programme creator and HU-student Jan will explore how raving creates a community; a place where everyone is free to express themselves and how it can help find you a sense of belonging. Learn more about the power of rave culture in an interview with Didi Kreike, founder of the modular nightlife-collective R3LN4CHT, and an HU-student. And, not only will we talk about it, we’re also going to experience it. R3LN4CHT will perform their latest work Safety Sirens and we’ll end the evening with a meditative rave experience. The meditative uptempo rave will be guided by Lodewijk van Dijk.

What is it about raves that makes people feel comfortable enough to go on their own? What is it about the experience that makes raving feel like you’re part of something bigger than just a regular party? Which prejudices about raving need to be debunked? Whether you’re an experienced raver, curious about the culture or a sceptic about raves—everyone is welcome to join this evening and feel the magic of the rave yourself!

About the guests
R3LN4CHT is a modular collective rooted in (queer) nightlife and contemporary pop- and visual culture. R3LN4CHT makes theatre performances, experimental work, club nights, and community meetings. They consider their work a hybrid art project that moves across various contexts.

The Nachtloket from Utrecht will also be present. During the Nachtloket, you can ask questions about night culture. It’s a monthly opportunity to ask anything related to nightlife — such as venues, permits, or funding. Feel free to stop by during the walk-in (7:30 – 8:15 PM) and after the Creativity Club panel.
